Article: Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) Control
Proportional
integral derivative control is used extensively in industry to control
machinery and maintain working environments. In this
highly anticipated article from our own Ben Rowland goes into the
details of PID control, how it works and how you can implement it into
your own projects. Flowcode examples are also provided as Ben
demonstrates how he used an EB058 graphical LCD, an EB020 Motor board
and PID control techniques to manipulate a DC Lego motor.
"When controlling a real system such as a motor there is
normally an error between the speed you wish to drive the motor at and
the speed the motor is running. This is due in part to the fact that the
motor will take time to respond and also due to the fact that the load
on the motor can change. Adding some kind of feedback to the system..." read more.
Two new user generated articles to help turn your ideas into reality
Our
new Article Zone features two new articles that have been generated by
users of our products. These articles share a common theme – using
Matrix’s hardware and software to aid in the design and development of a
working product. As a thank you, we have offered them each £150 worth
of free Matrix products. If you too would like to have an article
published on our website (and perhaps earn some freebies in the
process!), please contact us with your ideas.

Seeing an idea manifest itself into a fully working creation is always
satisfying, however so many good ideas go to waste due to restraints
like time, cost and quality. In this article Jan offers some possible
solutions to help see those sparks of creativity become reality. Read this article.
-
The second user-generated article this month comes from forum
contributor Tharowat Mohamed Ali (aka “misoct”) who describes how he has
used Matrix’s Flowcode and ECIO products to create a commercial
datalogging tool. Read this article.
New E-blocks Accessories Section on the Matrix Website
Those
of you who are regular visitors to our web site will have notices a few
wobbles in the past week or two whilst we have been streamlining the
structure and content. These changes are in response to feedback from
customers who have had trouble finding relevant information on products.
We are not finished with the redesign yet, and hope to have more news
for you next month. In the meantime please take a look at our new
E-blocks Accessories section where you will find products like CAN and
ZigBee analysers, RFID cards, storage systems, cables etc. You can see
this at:

If you have any ideas for new products that you think
we should be selling on our site then we would be happy to hear from
you.

E-blocks Questionnaire Extended until 14th April
We
have had a great response so far on our E-blocks questionnaire, but we
are extending the end of the contest in the hope that more people will
help us plan the future of the E-blocks range by offering their valued
feedback. Our previous campaigns, Flowcode v5 and MIAC device, were
highly successful and the responses we had have helped us decide the
direction we wish to take the products. So please help us out and also
be in with a very good chance of winning some free goodies, and take a
brief moment (it's very quick!) to fill out the questionnaire.
The online questionnaire will take only a few minutes to complete and one lucky respondent will receive £200 worth of free Matrix hardware or software.
NEW! Article Zone on the Matrix Website - Neater & Easier to Read Articles
Here are Matrix we are proud of both our
internally generated articles and the ones that are submitted by users
of our products, so to honour the efforts of our users and the dedicated
staff here at Matrix we have decided to immortalise these documents in
our new "Article Manager" on our website. These refined articles are in
an easy to read pdf format and come bundled with their accompanying
examples. We have picked ten articles to start off the article manager
so check back often to see whether new ones have been added. All our
subsequent articles will be added to the manager and for those of you
who like to discuss the articles there will be an associated thread
created on the forums! Let us know what you think on the forums of the
new manager, all feedback from users is appreciated!
