Startup problems with Flowcode 7.1

Post by SimonB »

Hello everyone,

It has come to our attention that a few people are having problems with the new version 7.1 whereby it hangs during startup.

First of all I apologise for the inconvenience this has caused and I am going to try and personally fix this for you ASAP.

One of the reasons that this has got through testing is because unfortunately it doesn't happen on any of our machines here at the office. I am therefore going to need your help in figuring out what exactly is causing the issue because I am unable to replicate it.

From what has been said so far it sounds like the initial screen appears but then nothing else happens. Am I right about this? If so then I need to try and figure out how far through the applications startup routine it gets before the hang happens. Can someone please tell me which of the following screenshots most accurately shows what they see at the time when the freeze-up/hang happens:

Stage 1 - Initial splash screen showing over whatever is on the desktop
Stage 2 - Initial splash screen showing and flowcode has appeared behind it
Stage 3 - The splash screen has disappeared, flowcode seems like it has loaded and you are presented with the licencing screen

Or is the problem somewhere else? (if you can give as much information as possible it would be extremely useful)

Also, can everyone who is experiencing the problem please post the following information:
  • What operating system are you using?
Is your operating system 32 bit or 64 bit?
What anti virus software are you running?
Which language are you running flowcode in?
Please can we also keep conversation on this thread about this specific problem.

Thank you!

Simon

*EDIT* I deleted the pictures because they are not needed any more and they were really annoying every time I wanted to scroll down

Hi Simon,

I am sending you the requested information:

What operating system are you using? Windows 7 Professional HUN
Is your operating system 32 bit or 64 bit? 64 bit
What anti virus software are you running? ESET Smart Security 9
Which language are you running flowcode in? English

The previous version of the perfect start when I reinstall it.
Interestingly, the MatrixTSL folder does not exist in the next path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> Software -> Wow6432Node in the Registry

Hi again!

New attemp!

I try to uninstall FC7 from windows /controlpanel/program and function) After removing I went to "Program files" I saw there was still FC7 lib. I deleted all. Then I downloaded FC7 from MM and reinstall.
Still the same problem.

Now I am without FC7

Hi All,

Thank you for this :) I have made a special build of Flowcode 7 for you to all try so that we can further investigate what is causing the problem.

For this to work you MUST have version 7.1 installed. If you try this with version 7.0.0.4 then it will likely just crash.

Please follow these instructions exactly:
  • Go in to your Flowcode install directory (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Flowcode 7 unless you changed it) and find the main FlowcodeV7.exe and rename it to something else
The .zip file on this post contains a new .exe. Extract it into to Flowcode folder
Run Flowcode and a series of message boxes will appear with numbers (and sometimes letters) in them from 1 to a maximum of 15. Please write down each one and then post here which ones you saw.
This will help me to find out where things are going wrong.

By the way Lagoda do not worry about that missing registry entry. Not everyone has them all. You have already helped me to discover that the registry is not causing the problem :)

Lagoda,

Excellent! Thank you :)

Ok so it is going wrong somewhere between 10 and 11. I have added more messages between these 2 points. Please can you do the same again for this new file?

Simon

Hi Lagoda,

This is a bit unfortunate as there is a LOT going on inside that function

However we are getting closer. I have done another build we more messages but I also removed everything before 10g since we know that everything works up until that point.

Simon

Simon,

I tried it. Improved, but still not perfect.

Before Closing the program now runs up to 300ms. :(
And the Flowcode V7.exe deleted from the task list.

Best Regards,

Hi Simon,
Just thought I would mention I don't have an issue with Flowcode V7.1 starting at all.
However if I try the test exe's then they act exactly same as Lagoda i.e fails in the exact same place and does not load.
sequence with latest Test exe:

Code: Select all

1,
12
13
14
15
16
16a
Version: -1.
After Version: -1 and clicking OK then Flowcode exits.
Replace with original exe then no issues.

Sorry to throw a spanner in the works.

Running 64bit windows with 350 Total Security
Would it be a good idea to send data to a debug log text file rather than clicking ok for the next sequence?
Then there could be more dtail and we just post the log file.

Hi Guys

My apologies in advance if this is not relevant, but I still would like to share this with you all. I have been running Windows 10 Pro as part of the Windows insider program. You all seem to have hit a problem after FC7 update and have focused upon that as been the issue.

However, Windows 10 released an update on Sep. 13th (Pre and post Anniversary addition) which had caused several problems with hardware and software other than FC7. These include:

Read the full article here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/hel ... te-history
Addressed additional issues with rendering 4K resolution, missing Start menu tiles when running on battery, Internet Explorer 11, Microsoft Edge, Bluetooth compatibility, graphics, display rotation, app compatibility, Wi-Fi, Feedback Hub, Miracast, Windows Shell, revised daylight saving time, and USB.
That translated to problems occurring with: printers; Pickit3; Finalfantasy xiv and Microsofts own antivirus software on my computer. I was only succseful in resolving my problems after a fresh install of Windows 10 Pre Anniversary addition.

Therefore your computers could be in a state of 'Upgrade' rather than fresh install with the above built in fault (did not affect everyone) . They are both the same build and versions numbers but behave very differently to each other. I could only correct my problems by doing a fresh install of Windows. It then upgraded to the Anniversary addition again but this time everything worked as it should. This is probably because of the next update released on Sept 20th which states:
September 20, 2016 — KB3193494 (OS Builds 14393.187 and 14393.189)

We encountered a network transmission issue with update KB3189866 published on September 13, 2016, and the quickest way to address this issue was to reissue the update to all Content Delivery Networks. This new update KB3193494 has the same set of fixes as KB3189866. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
As I said already, may not be relevant but does seem a bit of a coincidence.

Regards
Dave

As per Daves clue, i inform that i have denied anniversary update from installing on my win10 pro... So problems might be related to it!
