Embedded software engineer

The Experienced embedded engineer will be required to take control and responsibility for various projects from concept right through to full production.
The ideal candidate will preferably be located in the South West of England. However, for the right candidate, we are willing to look at a split working week in and out of the office.

Duties

• Program microcontrollers starting from proof of concepts, selecting the required controllers straight through to full production versions in a controlled manner using high levels of project management to complete projects on time.
• Fault finding, debugging and working closely with peers to minimise delays
• Fully understand project requirements from project specifications
• Delegate and manage tasks to less experienced in a timely and efficient manner
• Coach and mentor less experienced members of staff on an informal basis
• Write and update firmware documentation, from development to debugging

Skills

• Minimum of 5 to 10 years Embedded programming experience
• Project management and working closely with peers
• The ability to read electronic schematics and recommend suitable microcontroller hardware with various peripherals for application-specific requirements.
• In-depth knowledge of programming platforms and languages including C/C++
• Experience working with Flowcode using PIC, Atmel AVR or ARM microcontrollers
• Advanced understanding or various communication protocols both field and board based (SPI, I2C, UART, RS485, RS232, USB)
• Good verbal and communication skills to work closely with peers

Desirable Skills

• Wireless communications (Bluetooth, Wifi) and App development
• Motor control programming experience
• Understanding of motor control and power electronics
• Experience in GUI interfaces and working with Visual Studio
• Knowledge of SQL database
• Understanding of field bus protocols such as Canbus, Modbus, Ethercat, Profibus, Profinet
• Experience with FPGA programming using Verilog/VHDL
