Sending data to LCD using ASM

I am trying to write a programme in ASM to create a display. I have looked through the Datasheet of the LCD but it only helps to initiate the LCD but as far as changing the position of the cursor or sending an ASCII code to be displayed on the LCD not much of a help. I would like to look at a sample code that not only initiate the LCD but also sends data that can be seen on the LCD.
