4040 Counter Reading How

How do I read the value of a 4040 Counter connected to a PIC.THe connections are in an attachment.Any help is appreciated.

There was no attachment to your forum posting. Maybe a link to a datasheet or something would be good.

Also why would you use a binary counter when the PIC can do all of that for you. The only reason I can think is if your program has to deal with a large amount of other tasks so that it cannot constantly monitor the count input.
