Fried Can Chip

Post by goldwingers »

Hi Guys,

Have you had this issue before

ECIO 40 on project board, Can board on PortB, patched through with SDO on Port C

All was well until the TX board Can transceiver chip got very hot, this appears to have taken out the RX board chip also.

Connections

Can Hi - Can Hi
Can Lo - Can Lo

Where can I buy new Transceiver chips From ?

Regards

Ian

Hello Ian,

Farnell and MicrochipDirect both sell the transciever IC.

Can you tell me which version of the EB018 board you have, the version number will be shown on the board where X is the version. EB018-00-X.

Version 1 of the board had some minor problems which meant that the IC could be damaged in some corner case situations.

Regarding your connections you will also likely need to bus around Gnd between your CAN nodes to ensure that everything is "floating" at the same level.

Hi Beng
Thanks for the info grateful for that

I have Series 2 boards

Do I assume correctly you mean by grounding, that you mean the ground (-ve)connections on the power terminals on the can board back to the -ve power terminals on the project board?

I am using 2 power supplies (one for each project board) do I wire between the board1-ve to can1 -ve to can2 -ve to board2-ve

Regards

Ian

Hi Ian,

You don't need to wire ground to your CAN E-block from the programmer board as it is present in the D-type connection but you probably need to wire ground between the CAN nodes so that the CAN signals are floating at the same DC voltage.
