Carbon and Metal Film Resistor

This selection of carbon and metal film resistors have power ratings from 0.1Ω (the smallest resistor) to 2Ω (the largest resistor). Resistors of this type are used in a wide variety of 'general purpose' applications. Values range from 1Ω to 10MΩ.

Enamel Coated Wire-wound Resistor

This glazed enamel coated wirewound resistor is rated at 2.5W. Resistors of this type are used in applications where an appreciable power must be dissipated. Values range from 0.1Ω to 10kΩ.

Ceramic Cased Wire-Round Resistor

This wire ended ceramic cased wirewound resistor is designed to dissipate an appreciable power. Typical ratings for these types of resistor range from 3W to 15W. Values range from 0.1Ω to 22kΩ.

Aluminium Clad Wire-Round Resistor

Aluminium clad wirewound resistors are capable of dissipating very high power levels - typically up to 25W when mounted on a substantial metal heatsink. Values range from around 1Ω to 100Ω.

Ceramic Tubular Wire-Round Resistor

This ceramic tubular wirewound resistor is rated at 20W and is 'tapped' in order to provide two series connected resistor sections: one of 250Ω and one of 300Ω. Values range from 10Ω to 10kΩ.

Pre-set Potentiometer

This horizontally mounted preset potentiometer is rated at 0.15W. Values range from 100Ω to 1MΩ.

Variable Potentiometer

This variable resistor is rated at 0.2W and is fitted with a standard 0.25" diameter control shaft. Values range from 1kΩ to 1MΩ with either linear or semi-logarithmic laws (the latter are commonly used for volume controls with potentiometers of 10kΩ or 100kΩ).

Multi-turn Variable Potentiometer

This multi-turn variable potentiometer provides fine adjustment with 10 turns of the potentiometer shaft required to cover the full range of resistance. Values of typically 1kΩ, 10kΩ or 100kΩ are available (linear law only).

Multi-turn Pre-set Potentiometer

This picture shows three typical multi-turn preset potentiometers. Vertical or horizontal types are available (with 10, 18 or 22 turn mechanisms) in values ranging from 1kΩ to 1MΩ.

Potentiometer with DPDT Switch

This potentiometer, designed for service as a volume control, is also fitted with a double-pole, double-throw on/off switch. Values range from 4.7kΩ to 1MΩ with linear or semi-logarithmic laws.

Dual Gang Potentiometer

Dual-gang potentiometers are often used in stereo equipment where it is necessary to make simultaneous adjustments to the 'left' and 'right' channels. Values range from 4.7kΩ to 1MΩ with linear or semi-logarithmic laws.
