Introduction Passive Circuits

<^< Assignment: Semiconductors | Course Index | Series and Parallel Connections >^>

As you explore the world of electronics, you will encounter a wide variety of circuits (or networks) that don't contain semiconductors or other amplifying devices. Despite their simplicity, circuits of this type have a number of important applications including:

  • reducing the voltage or current in a circuit by a fixed ratio
  • altering the frequency response of a circuit (e.g. allowing a circuit to pass only signals within a given frequency range)
  • altering the shape of a waveform (e.g. changing a square wave to a triangle wave)
